Feast on this: Foods that fight hangovers

WASHINGTON – With a cure for everything, it’s a wonder anyone has to suffer through a hangover.

Luckily, Modern Man has compiled a list of foods to ease the effects of having one too many.

Leftover toxins are a major culprit of intense hangovers. The amino acid cysteine, found in eggs, helps your body rid itself of the toxins. The high protein in eggs also improves your mood by boosting serotonin levels. Asparagus helps the liver fend off those pesky toxins, too.

It’s the news for which every meat-eating alcohol connoisseur has been waiting: Bacon helps hangovers. Amino acids in this greasy breakfast food help replenish depleted neurotransmitters. Careful though, a queasy stomach and too much fat don’t always mix.

Those toxins also can be absorbed by a healthy serving of oats – which are chock full of iron, calcium, magnesium and B vitamins. Add honey and bananas, also known for their hangover-quelling abilities, for a tasty meal to ease you back to health.

More hangover foods are available on the Modern Man website – but sorry Charlie – the hair of the dog didn’t make the list.
