VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (AP) -- The Virginia Beach City Council will consider three proposals to bring passenger rail service to the city.
Media outlets report that council members voted Tuesday night to review light rail and magnetic levitation proposals submitted by three private groups.
Skanska/AECom/Shucet proposes building a 5.2-mile light rail extension from Norfolk to Rosemont Road for $235 million. The group is headed by former Hampton Roads Transit head Phil Shucet.
Parsons Construction Group Inc. of Norfolk proposes a light rail extension that would run from Norfolk to the Oceanfront.
American Maglev Technology's proposal calls for a $334 million maglev system from Norfolk to the Oceanfront. Riders would transfer from The Tide light rail in Norfolk to maglev trains.
