Metro: empty train had smoking brake issue

Sunday - 11/25/2012, 2:36pm  ET

WASHINGTON (AP) - Metro says a train that wasn't in service experienced a mechanical problem at the Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport station that led to delays.

Metro spokesman Dan Stessel said in an email that the problem happened at 10:43 a.m. Sunday at the station on the yellow and blue lines. The train reported smoking brakes on the rear car of the train. The train operator disengaged the brakes on that car and moved the train to Metro's New Carrollton Rail Yard.

Stessel says delays were clear by 11:15 a.m.
