ARLINGTON, Va. - Some bicycle lanes in Arlington County are going to have a new look to help alert car drivers.
County officials tell WAMU Radio that five bicycle lanes are being painted green with a friction coating in some segments. The goal is to keep bike riders safer.
Transportation planner Dan Malouff says the county wanted to improve the visibility of the bike lanes so that cars remember to look for bicyclists as drivers cross the lanes. Arlington officials chose locations with high bicycle traffic and high car volumes.
Malouff says more bike lanes may be painted green in the next year. Planning is still under way.
