National Marathon to close D.C. roads Saturday

WASHINGTON – Drivers should expect major delays in and around the District on Saturday.

Thousands of runners will take to the streets, and dozens of live bands will perform at just about every mile marker along the 2012 Rock ‘n’ Roll SunTrust National Marathon route on Saturday.

From Anacostia to Columbia Heights, and from Foggy Bottom to Capitol Hill, road closures will begin as early as 3 a.m. on Saturday and stay in effect until at least 2:30 that afternoon.

All roads along the marathon and half-marathon race route will be closed. Major roads, including Connecticut and Constitution avenues, as well as North and East Capitol streets, will be closed.

Metro will open one hour early on Saturday at 6 a.m., but riders will likely experience delays as the Orange, Blue and Green lines will be single-tracking.
