WASHINGTON -- Metro is spending thousands of dollars so its top department heads can go through team-building exercises with a leadership coach.
The transportation agency says it is shelling out about $15,000 for six sessions with South Carolina based White Ridgely Associates.
"[General Manager] Rich Sarles talks about Metro's culture as having historic silos," writes Metro spokesperson Dan Stessel in an email. "These sessions are designed to help his core executive team work together to achieve common goals, lead change within the organization and improve interdepartmental cooperation and communications."
Stessel would not comment on who is in these sessions, only saying they involve major department heads.
Metro's department heads include Deputy General Manager Dave Kubicek, Deputy General Manager Carol Kissal, Assistant General Manager of Bus Services Jack Requa, Chief of Staff Shiva Pant, Chief Safety Officer Jim Dougherty, Assistant General Manager of Marketing and Communications Barbara Richardson and Metro General Counsel Carol O'Keefe.
Metro sources say there are strained relationships between department heads.
