Md. prosecutors drop charges in twin's death

ELLICOTT CITY, Md. - Howard County prosecutors are dropping charges against a Columbia man who had been accused of killing his twin brother.

Prosecutors told a judge Monday that they will not pursue another trial for 24-year-old Wael Ali after a mistrial was declared last month. Assistant State's Attorney Jim Dietrich says after speaking to jurors, prosecutors didn't think they could do better in a retrial of the circumstantial case.

Authorities said Wasel Ali went missing the same day he was fired after admitting a role in a theft scheme and implicating his brother. After the brothers were seen on surveillance video leaving the Mall at Columbia, authorities said Wael Ali called a friend saying his brother was missing, but he had already searched the area where Wasel Ali's body was later found.
