More jobs for up-and-coming college graduates

WASHINGTON — There’s good news on the job hunting front for up-and-coming college graduates. The U.S. unemployment rate has plummeted to 6.3 percent, the lowest in 5 1/2 years, and the economy has gained 288,000 jobs.

Bankrate.com Bureau Chief Mark Hamrick says those wearing a cap and gown set can definitely celebrate, but some majors will possibly see more job postings than others.

“This being the best job market for the current group of college graduates since the recession. That’s a low hurdle,” says Hamrick. “But there are particularly jobs in key sectors like science and engineering and business that give graduates a reason for hope.”

However, communications and journalism grads are at the bottom of the list of graduates most in demand, according to Bankrate.com.
