(AP) - PUTTING THE `US' IN AIRBUS: The European airplane manufacturer will build commercial planes in the U.S. for the first time. The company has long been aiming to boost its U.S. presence. The plant will be in Mobile, Ala.
WHY MOBILE? It has a port, to which airplane sections will be shipped. Labor is cheaper than in Europe. And there are financial advantages for building in dollars rather than in euros.
WHAT'S NEXT: Aircraft assembly begins in 2015, with first deliveries in 2016. Airbus expects to make as many as 50 planes per year by 2018.
