The Times-Picayune employees learn fate

Tuesday - 6/12/2012, 11:24am  ET

NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Employees are meeting with managers of The Times-Picayune as the newspaper prepares to trim its staff and publish three days a week.

Parent company Advance Publications plans to form a new company to oversee one of the nation's oldest newspapers and its affiliated website, NOLA.com. The Times-Picayune had printed editions seven days a week.

The newspaper says employees are being told Tuesday whether they will have a job with NOLA Media Group or be offered a severance package to leave the 175-year-old newspaper.

Similar meetings were being held at three major Alabama daily newspapers also owned by Advance Publications.

The Times-Picayune says some employees who are not offered positions Tuesday will be able to apply for jobs later.
