Md. church hopes to resolve water rights dispute

WEST LAUREL, Md. - A Seventh-day Adventist congregation in Maryland is pleased with a federal judge's ruling that may help to break a stalemate over a proposed construction project.

The Washington Post reports U.S. District Judge Roger W. Titus said Wednesday that the Prince George's County Council must reconsider a request by the congregation, Reaching Hearts International, to install water and sewer lines on a 17-acre parcel in West Laurel where the church wants to build a school, sanctuary and conference center.

The judge said the council must act within 60 days or risk facing a trial.

The council gave limited water and sewer rights to the church in September. But the church's pastor said the council plan was too restrictive, prompting the church to go back to the judge for help.
