RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - A Richmond commission has endorsed the concept of a natural amphitheater along the James River.
Richmond Planning Commission members say the proposal approved Monday offers a chance to restore a neglected part of the city's river transit system.
Opponents are worried that construction would damage the historic canal.
Venture Richmond wants to use the amphitheater for the annual Richmond Folk Festival, which next year will lose its main stage at a riverfront location on Brown's Island.
The Richmond Times-Dispatch (http://bit.ly/18sw2Fe) reports the project's final design must be approved by a design committee and the planning commission.
