Stephen Colbert responds to Twitter controversy

WASHINGTON — Stephen Colbert hosted “The Colbert Report” for the first time Monday since a tweet last week from the show’s official account offended twitter users, sparking the creation of the hashtag #CancelColbert.

The tweet, “I am willing to show #Asian community I care by introducing the Ching- Chong Ding-Dong Foundation for Sensitivity to Orientals or Whatever,” was posted Thursday evening.

The original tweet was in reference a skit from the Wednesday episode where Colbert was mocking the Washington Redskins owner’s decision to create the Washington Redskins Original Americans Foundation in order to help struggling Native Americans.

Monday’s episode began with a dream sequence of the show being shut down until Colbert, dressed in Washington Redskins gear, was woken up by actor B.D. Wong.
