Jean-Claude Van Damme split video not all that dangerous (Video)

WASHINGTON – It may be the split seen around the world — but just how dangerous was it?

The Internet is buzzing about action star Jean-Claude Van Damme’s latest stunt where he does a full split while sandwiched between two Volvo trucks driving in reverse.

The video, which is a Volvo ad to demonstrate the automaker’s streering stability, has accrued more than 30 million views on YouTube since it was posted on Nov. 13.

While the stunt seems precarious, a Volvo spokesperson told The Wall Street Journal that Van Damme was never really in any danger.

“The stunt is real and is performed in just one take,” Anders Vilhelmsson, public relations manager for the Volvo Trucks brand, told Wall Street Journal.

“It’s a daring stunt but we had full control. There was never any real danger involved.”

During the commercial, Van Damme was hooked into safety lines that can’t be seen in the video. Also, the 53-year-old’s feet are on small platforms built on the trucks’ side mirrors, according to The Wall Street Journal.
