Joan Rivers’ doctor allegedly takes selfie during biopsy

WASHINGTON — The doctor performing a biopsy on Joan Rivers allegedly stopped to take a selfie during the procedure, CNN reports.

The doctor, who has not been publicly identified, was the comedienne’s personal physician.

Rivers had been put under anesthesia earlier that day for a routine endoscopy to help diagnose her hoarse voice and sore throat. After the procedure, which was completed by a different doctor, her physician began to perform an unscheduled biopsy on her vocal chords, an unnamed source tells CNN.

Rivers had not given prior consent to the last minute procedure.

Investigators believe that Rivers’ vocal chords began to swell during the biopsy and cut off oxygen to her lungs, which led to cardiac arrest Aug. 29.

She died Sept. 4 at Mount Sinai hospital, never having regained consciousness after the biopsy.
