Queen Elizabeth meets new royal heir

Wednesday - 7/24/2013, 9:50am  ET

LONDON (AP) -- Britain's Queen Elizabeth has met her new great-grandson for the first time.

She made a short trip today from Buckingham Palace to Kensington Palace, where the two-day-old royal baby spent a first night at home with his parents, Prince William and Kate.

The baby is Elizabeth's third great-grandchild. He is third in line to the British throne.

The boy's name hasn't yet been revealed. Prince William told reporters yesterday that he and his wife are "still working on a name."

Bookmaker William Hill has established the name George as the 2-to-1 favorite, with James at 4-to-1.

The front pages of British newspapers today are blanketed with images of the prince, his little hand peeking above a white wrap as his parents brought him outside the hospital yesterday to give the British public their first view of the baby.

William is taking two weeks' paternity leave from his job as a Royal Air Force search-and-rescue helicopter pilot. The palace says he and Kate will now spend "private and quiet time for them to get to know their son."
