WASHINGTON — Social media provides an unprecedented avenue for sports teams
to connect with fans.

It can help build communities of like-minded supporters
and give them a place to cheer, complain and otherwise discuss their favorite
team.

But it can also be a minefield of potential marketing implosions, as teams,
companies and athletes have shown us time and time again. A poorly thought-out
campaign can be far worse than no campaign at all.
