Americans dominate at US Open swim meet

IRVINE, Calif. (AP) -- Zane Grothe won the 800-meter freestyle for his second title of the U.S. Open swimming meet, and Justine Mueller set a meet record in winning the 200 individual medley on the final night.

Grothe won the 800 free in 7 minutes, 56.16 seconds to add to his 1,500 free title from Wednesday. Eric Hedlin of Canada was second in 7:59.68 and Kevin Litherland was third at the William Woollett Jr. Aquatic Center.

Mueller won the 200 IM in a meet-record of 2:11.06. Celina Li was second in 2:12.72 and Kathleen Baker was third.

Ivy Martin won the women's 50 free in 25.11 seconds, ahead of Madeline Schaefer in 25.57. Madison Kennedy was third.

The men's 50 free was won by Karl Krug in 22.15. Seth Stubblefield was second in 22.19, while Olympian Tyler McGill was third in 22.25.

Sebastian Rousseau of South Africa earned his second title, taking the 200 IM in 1:59.58. He earlier won the 200 butterfly. Stephen Schmuhl was second in 1:59.60, and Austin Surhoff was third.

Australia's Laura Crockart won the women's 1,500 free in 16:08.36. Gillian Ryan was second in 16:15:65. Ryan also won the 400 and 800 freestyles at the meet. Alicia Mathieu was third.
