LAS VEGAS (AP) -- Points leader John Force topped Funny Car qualifying Saturday in the NHRA Toyota Nationals with a track-record run at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
The 64-year-old Force, the record 15-time series champion coming off victories in the last two events, broke the track time record with a run of 4.011 seconds at 317.79 mph in his Ford Mustang.
"This car has had a little magic these last few races and just seemed to get away with everything," Force said. "We went up there and went right down the race track. It was like a rocket ship. It was pretty awesome. I've got a great team and we're just going to have some fun (Sunday)."
Shawn Langdon led the Top Fuel field, Mike Edwards was fastest in Pro Stock, and Hector Arana topped the Pro Stock Motorcycle order in the fifth of six events in the Countdown to the Championship playoffs.
Series leader Langdon had a 3.778 at 324.28. He has six victories this year.
In Pro Stock, Edwards earned his 14th top qualifying position of the season and 55th of his career with a run of 6.632 at 208.23 in a Chevrolet Camaro.
Arana had a 6.930 at 192.44.
