Mickelson leads

ARDMORE, Pa. (AP) -- Five-time runner-up Phil Mickelson shot a 3-under 67 to take the clubhouse lead in the rain-delayed opening round of the US Open. Lefty opened on the 11th hole and bogeyed it for the only blemish on his card for the day. He might have been a little jet-lagged on the first hole. Mickelson flew cross-country through the night after attending his daughter, Amanda's, eighth-grade graduation in San Diego yesterday.

Mickelson was among the early starters who got in about two hours-worth of golf before the sirens sounded and play was suspended for bad weather. Three hours, 32 minutes later play picked up, as the storm blew through the Merion region.

Belgium's Nicolas Colsaerts (KOHL'-sarts) posted a 69 to grab a spot near the top of the leaderboard.

Former Masters champ Bubba Watson, Dustin Johnson and Steve Stricker were among those who shot 71.

No. 1-ranked Tiger Woods is set to play in a group with second-ranked Rory McIlroy and No. 3 Adam Scott for the first two days. They had their tee time pushed back to late afternoon because of the rain. Woods enters the tournament with four wins this year. He's trying to snap a five-year winning drought at major championships.

Heat look to rebound in Game 4

SAN ANTONIO (AP) -- LeBron James calls it a "must win" situation.

The league MVP and his Miami Heat find themselves down two-games-to-one to San Antonio heading into tonight's Game 4 of the NBA Finals. And the Heat need a much better performance than their 36-point loss in Game 3 if they hope to keep from being pushed to the brink of elimination.

James himself is going to have to up his game after missing his first ten shots from outside the paint and wound up 7-for-21 in Game 3.

One promising trend for the Heat is that they haven't lost consecutive game in five months.

The Spurs got some good news when Tony Parker was cleared to play tonight. He suffered a mild right hamstring strain in Tuesday's win.

Nets unveil new Kidd

NEW YORK (AP) -- Admitting that he has a lot to learn about the job, Jason Kidd has been introduced as the Brooklyn Nets new coach. He takes the job just days after ending his 19-year playing career.

While nervous about his new role, Kidd says he felt that, as a point guard, he was an extension of the coach.

The Nets decided to hire him to replace P.J. Carlesimo despite his lack of coaching experience.

Pistons intro new coach

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. (AP) -- The Detroit Pistons have introduced Maurice Cheeks as new head coach, nearly two months after Lawrence Frank was fired from the job.

Cheeks becomes the franchise's fourth coach in six seasons.

This is the third head coaching stop for Cheeks. He had a 284-286 record with the Portland Trail Blazers and Philadelphia 76ers.

Wainwright is first to 10

UNDATED (AP) -- Adam Wainwright became the major leagues' first 10-game winner by pitching seven scoreless innings in the Cardinals 2-1 win over the Mets.

Wainwright improved to 10-3 by retiring his first 11 batters before David Wright's single. He allowed four hits with six strikeouts and two walks. Wainwright matched his career best by winning his fifth straight start, dropped his ERA to 2.18 and got his 1,000th career strike.

Matt Harvey pitched well in suffering his first loss or the season to drop to 5-1. He gave up one run and five hits in seven innings with seven strikeouts and a walk. Harvey has been unbeaten in 14 starts dating back to Sept. 12.

Twenty wins in the last 25 games have vaulted Oakland to the top of the AL West. The Athletics are putting a 10-game home winning streak on the line with the continuation of their home series against the Yankees this afternoon.

Texas is hoping that Yu Darvish can break out of his mini-slump and help make up a one-game gap on the A's at the top of the division. He's scheduled to pitch for the Rangers when they take on Toronto tonight. Darvish sports a 7-2 mark, but is without a win in his last four starts. During that stretch the Rangers have only scored ten runs for him, while averaging nearly 7
