NIH To Discharge Nurse Now Free Of Ebola Virus

National Institutes of HealthNIH says Nina Pham, the Ebola-stricken nurse who came to the Bethesda facility last week, is now free of the virus and will be discharged.

Top NIH officials, including NIH Director Francis Collins and Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, will hold a press conference at 11:30 a.m. in front of the agency’s Clinical Center.

A live stream of the press conference can be viewed here.

Pham, one of two nurses who contracted Ebola in a Dallas hospital while treating a patient there, was moved to a special isolation unit at the Clinical Center last Thursday.

On Tuesday, NIH announced Pham had been upgraded from “fair” to “good” condition. The Bethesda-based agency also announced this week that it will begin human testing on a second potential vaccine for the virus, which has caused the deaths of about 5,000 people in west Africa.
