Olney man ‘assists’ in catching Pujols’ 500th HR (Video)

WASHINGTON – An Olney man almost caught Albert Pujols’ 500th home run at Nats Park Tuesday night and he has the bumps and bruises to prove it.

MLB.com reports that Chris Gordon went to the game with his two sons. Instead of sitting in their seats, they hung out in the Red Porch.

Gordon had to run down some steps to try and catch the ball, which hit him in the stomach, leaving a welt, according to MLB.com.

The ball bounced and Tom Sherrill, a staff sergeant with the Air Force and an Angels fan, caught the fly ball.

Sherrill opted to give the ball to Pujols and took Gordon and his sons to meet the slugger.

Watch Sherrill talk about catching that ball in the video below.
