WASHINGTON - Police have safely reunited an abducted 3-year-old North Bethesda, Md., boy with his family.
Montgomery County police say Shervin Hessamfar, 27, of North Bethesda, faces kidnapping and two counts of burglary following a chain of apparently related circumstances Thursday.
Police say they first received a call at about 10:40 a.m. regarding a a single-vehicle, hit-and-run collision at Rockville Pike and Tuckerman Lane.
Then they received two reports from a nearby apartment building. The first was about a first-floor break-in, the second about an abduction on the third floor.
Police locked down the building in the 5200 block of Tuckerman Lane and conducted a floor-by-floor search. Hessamfar and the boy were found in the stairway of a nearby parking garage. The boy was not hurt.
Police determined that a rear window on the first floor had been broken, and that at some point the fire alarm was activated. As a third-floor resident went to check out what was happening, the child was snatched.
Hessamfar was the driver of the vehicle involved in the collision, police say.
Police are asking anyone with information to call them at 240-773-5400.
