Police release suspect sketch in park assault

WASHINGTON – A teenage boy sexually assaulted a six-year-old girl who had been waiting for an ice cream truck in a Silver Spring park earlier this month.

Monday the Maryland-National Capital Park Police released a sketch of what the girl’s attacker looked like. He is described as a dark-skinned black teen who is about 16 years old with a heavy build, a “big belly,” and an “afro” hair style that was slicked back. He was clean shaven, had a dimple on his chin and a diamond earring in his left ear, police say.

He was wearing blue tennis shoes with a red tongue and blue laces, a red T-shirt with a white and gray pattern in the middle plus a pair of shorts, police say.

The teen approached the girl while she was waiting for an ice cream truck at Tanglewood Neighborhood Park on Schubert Drive about 7 p.m. on July 9. After the attack, the teen walked into a wooded area behind the playground, according to police.

Anyone who can identify the attacker is asked to call Detective Crystal Lopez at 301-929-2774 or send her an email at crystal.lopez@mncparkpolice.org.
