WASHINGTON - After a long winter, spring has finally come to the D.C. area, and people are taking advantage of it.

Temperatures Monday are expected to reach 73 to 78, and meteorologists say it could get into the mid-80s on Wednesday.

"Tomorrow looks even warmer with a southerly breeze and a partly sunny sky that will help boost temperatures to near 80. The middle of the week will bring the warmest weather with highs in the low- to middle 80s Wednesday and near 80 Thursday. That's about 15 degrees above average," says meteorologist Brian van de Graaf.

The last time it hit at least 80 degrees was Oct. 24, 2012.

Expect lots of folks to be out at the Tidal Basin this week, checking out the cherry blossoms.

This year's cool temperatures delayed their peak bloom.

Also expect people out on the golf courses.

At Hampshire Greens Golf Club in Montgomery County Sunday, tee times were filled through the late afternoon and early evening.

For most people, Sunday was the first round of the year.

"The sun feels great on the skin, and you know muscles are getting pretty loose under the sunshine. I love it," a golfer named Paul said on the driving range .

He and his son were on their first 18 holes together this spring.

MONDAY: Patchy clouds, 73 to 78. Overnight, maybe a sprinkle and lows of 54 to 60.

TUESDAY: Partly cloudy. Around 80.

WEDNESDAY: Partly cloudy with a highs in the low- to mid 80s.

THURSDAY: Evening showers. Highs near 80.
