Rangers backup G Talbot out for Stanley Cup opener

LOS ANGELES (AP) — New York Rangers backup goalie Cam Talbot is unavailable for the Stanley Cup finals opener because of an unspecified injury.

Journeyman goalie David Leneveu is backing up Henrik Lundqvist as the Rangers face the Los Angeles Kings on Wednesday night.

Talbot appeared in relief of Lundqvist twice during the Eastern Conference playoffs, mostly recently in Game 5 against Montreal on May 27. But he missed practice last weekend with an injury, and coach Alain Vigneault says he’s not ready to play if needed.

Leneveu played briefly for Phoenix and Columbus during a career spent largely in the AHL, but has never appeared in a game for the Rangers.

Leneveu spent last season in Austria, and he signed with the Rangers’ AHL affiliate in Hartford in January.
