Korn replaces Kolzig as Capitals goalie coach

ARLINGTON, Va. (AP) — Mitch Korn has replaced Olie Kolzig as the Washington Capitals goaltending coach.

The team announced Tuesday that Korn is following head coach Barry Trotz to Washington. Korn was the goaltending coach under Trotz for the last 15 seasons with the Nashville Predators.

The Capitals say Kolzig expressed a desire to not continue as a full-time goaltending coach due to family reasons. Korn says he is looking for ways to keep Kolzig active in the organization.

Kolzig holds almost every all-time Capitals goaltending record. He was the assistant goaltending coach before being promoted to head goaltending coach last season. Washington finished out of the playoffs and fired head coach Adam Oates.
