Owner: Potomac Nationals closer to new stadium

Monday - 12/2/2013, 9:28am  ET

WOODBRIDGE, Va. (AP) -- The owner of a Washington Nationals minor league affiliate says the team is "pretty darn close" to a naming rights contract for a new ballpark in northern Virginia.

Art Silber, owner of the Potomac Nationals, says the team is getting closer to a deal for a Woodbridge stadium but that the stadium's financing and other details need to be concluded next year for the team to remain in Prince William County.

The Washington Post reports that Silber recently updated the Board of County Supervisors.

The Class A team plays at a county-owned stadium with maintenance problems.

A deal announced in July calls for a new $25 million ballpark at Stonebridge at Potomac Town Center.

Silver told supervisors the team is close to a naming-rights contract for the stadium's financing.
