WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Washington Nationals have recalled right-hander Ryan Mattheus from Triple-A Syracuse and optioned left-hander Xavier Cedeno to their top farm club.

The 29-year-old Mattheus was optioned to Syracuse on Aug. 15 to make room for right-hander Drew Storen. He allowed one earned run in 5 1-3 innings during five appearances with Syracuse.
