Pedroia still out with concussion symptoms

NEW YORK (AP) — Second baseman Dustin Pedroia is out of the Boston Red Sox lineup for the third consecutive game because of concussion-like symptoms.

Versatile rookie Brock Holt was set to play second again Tuesday night in the opener of a three-game set against the New York Yankees. Red Sox manager John Farrell said Monday he was not optimistic about Pedroia playing in the series, which marks Boston’s final visit to Yankee Stadium this season.

Farrell says Pedroia didn’t feel quite right when he tried some activity Monday, spending a little time in the batting cage, and the 2008 AL MVP is still dealing with symptoms, such as inconsistent sleep. Farrell says the team needs to go day by day and be cautious.

Pedroia left Saturday night’s loss to Tampa Bay in the second inning. He was elbowed in the head by Logan Forsythe, who was sliding headfirst into second.
