Mets GM Alderson suggests deadline deal unlikely

NEW YORK (AP) — Mets general manager Sandy Alderson says “I wouldn’t bet on something happening” before Thursday’s trade deadline.

New York went into Monday night’s game against the Phillies at 50-55, seven games out of a wild-card spot. Alderson says: “We’re not anxious to be sellers and cautious about being buyers.”

Monday’s starter, Bartolo Colon, might be the most attractive trade bait to other teams that are buyers. In the first season of a two-year, $20 million deal, the 41-year-old right-hander was 9-8 with a 4.03 ERA going into the game. But Alderson suggests Colon may be an even more valuable trade asset in the coming offseason.
