Padres to place OF Quentin on DL with sore knee

ATLANTA (AP) — The San Diego Padres say they will put outfielder Carlos Quentin on the 15-day disabled list on Monday because of a sore left knee.

Second baseman Jedd Gyorko will come off the disabled list.

Quentin appeared as a pinch-hitter on Saturday and did not play in Sunday’s 8-3 loss to the Braves. The planned moves were announced after Sunday’s game by manager Bud Black.

Gyorko has been out since June 4 with plantar fasciitis in his left foot. Second baseman Brooks Conrad will be optioned to Triple-A El Paso.

Earlier Sunday the Padres announced right-hander Ian Kennedy’s turn in the rotation will be skipped on Monday due to a mild left oblique strain. Converted outfielder Jason Lane will be recalled to make his first major league start.
