Marathon to go on next year...Bruins game rescheduled...Wings lock up Howard

BOSTON (AP) -- In the wake of yesterday's bombing, the head of the organization that stages the Boston Marathon says the race will go on in 2014. Thomas Grilk says in a statement that organizers are "committed to continuing that tradition" with the 118th Boston Marathon in 2014. Three people were killed and more than 170 were injured near the marathon finish line Monday.

TORONTO (AP) -- The NHL has rescheduled the Boston Bruins' game against Ottawa that was postponed Monday night because of the Boston Marathon bombings to Sunday, April 28. The game at TD Garden will be played a day after the regular season was scheduled to end.

ATLANTA (AP) -- On the baseball field, the 11-1 Atlanta Braves host Kansas City in interleague action. The Braves are riding a nine-game winning streak and start the day with a three-and-a-half-game lead in the National League East.

DETROIT (AP) -- The Detroit Red Wings and goalie Jimmy Howard have agreed to a $31.8 million, six-year contract, keeping him off the market as a free agent this summer. In his fourth season as Detroit's top goalie, the 29-year-old Howard is 17-12-6 with a 2.31 goals-against average and a .920 save percentage this season.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) -- The University of Oregon has acknowledged major NCAA violations in connection with football recruiting and proposed a self-imposed two-year probation with the loss of one scholarship in each of the next three years, according to documents released by the school. The revelations were made in a summary disposition report included in the documents released Monday night. The contents were first reported by KATU television in Portland.
