NFL sacks...NHL Labor talks resume...Commodores sail past NC State

UNDATED (AP) -- It has been one of the busiest Mondays in NFL history, with seven coaches and five general managers getting fired. Andy Reid was let go by Philadelphia after 14 seasons, Lovie Smith got pink-slipped by Chicago, Norv Turner was shown the door by San Diego, Arizona fired Ken Whisenhunt (WIHZ'-en-hunt) Cleveland booted Pat Shurmur , Romeo Crennel (kreh-NEL') was axed by Kansas City and Buffalo said good-bye to Chan Gailey.

NEW YORK (AP) -- The NHL players' union presented a counteroffer to the league today in the latest attempt to resolve a lockout and start a shortened season. The sides met at NHL headquarters and negotiated for the first time since they met with a federal mediator on Dec. 13.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) --Jordan Rodgers threw two touchdown passes and ran for a third score as Vanderbilt capped its best football season in nearly a century by beating North Carolina State 38-24 in the Music City Bowl. The Commodores finished 9-4 for their best record since going 9-1 in 1915.

PITTSBURGH (AP) -- Fourteenth-ranked Cincinnati rebounded from a loss to New Mexico last Thursday by beating No. 24 Pittsburgh 70-61.Cashmere Wright was high man for the Panthers with 18 points.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Journeyman outfielder Endy Chavez has found his way back to the organization with which he made his major league debut in 2001. Chavez has signed a minor league deal with the Kansas City Royals with an invite to big league spring training.
