DETROIT (AP) -- The Tigers liked what they saw from Anibal Sanchez after acquiring the right-hander from Miami in July and he'll be in the rotation for some time to come. A person familiar with the deal tells the AP that Detroit has reached agreement with the free-agent pitcher on a five-year contract for $80 million.

ST. LOUIS (AP) -- Looking for a right-handed bat with a little punch, the St. Louis Cardinals have agreed to a deal with free-agent infielder Ty Wigginton. The 35-year-old has played 11 big league seasons and has hit 15 or more homers six times.

ASHBURN, Va. (AP) -- Redskins coach Mike Shanahan says his star rookie quarterback "keeps on improving every day" but is still listed as questionable for Sunday's game against Cleveland. Robert Griffin III practiced on a limited basis for a third straight day on a sprained right knee.

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) -- The New York Giants will play a critical game against the Atlanta Falcons without their leading rusher. Giants coach Tom Coughlin (KAWK'-lihn) confirms that Ahmad Bradshaw will not play Sunday due to lingering knee and foot problems.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- After whittling down the list of candidates to two, Temple is asking New York Giants assistant Matt Rhule to take over the school's football program, a person familiar with the decision tells The Associated Press. This will be the third time in the last three years the Owls have hired a new football coach.
