WASHINGTON (AP) -- There few better places for a struggling NBA team to try to get back on track these days than the nation's capital. The Los Angeles Lakers come into tonight's game in Washington on a four game losing streak. The Wizards have the league's worst record, with just one win against 16 losses. The Lakers-Wizards matchup is one of 11 games on the NBA schedule tonight.
DETROIT (AP) -- The Detroit Tigers have reportedly secured a key part of their rotation for the next five years. A person familiar with the deal tells The Associated Press that the Tigers and right-handed pitcher Anibal Sanchez have agreed to an $80 million, five-year contract. Sanchez had a 1.77 ERA in three postseason starts this year. But he was only 1-2 because Detroit was shut out in each of his losses.
NEW YORK (AP) -- Kevin Youkilis has joined Babe Ruth, Wade Boggs, Roger Clemens and Johnny Damon as prominent Red Sox who made the switch to Boston's most hated rival. Youkilis and the New York Yankees a finalized a $12 million, one-year contract today. He's expected to play third base for the first half of next season while Alex Rodriguez recovers from hip surgery.
UNDATED (AP) -- There's news on the status of two NFL quarterbacks. The Redskins' Robert Griffin III practiced for a third straight day and appeared to favor his sprained right knee less. Meanwhile, New York Jets coach Rex Ryan is talking about Tim Tebow's role. After saying Tebow would back-up Mark Sanchez this week, but only in the conventional offense, Ryan now says Tebow is moving well in practice and could run the wildcat when the Jets face Tennessee Monday night.
NEW YORK (AP) -- Skiing champ Lindsey Vonn say she has struggled with depression and has been prescribed an antidepressant to treat the condition. Vonn tells "People" magazine she went through a period four years ago when she felt so hopeless and empty that she couldn't get out of bed or "even cry anymore." She says her husband at the time encouraged her to get treatment. Vonn is competing in World Cup competition in France this weekend. She crashed in today's downhill in Val d'Isere.
