WASHINGTON - Nationals manager Davey Johnson calls the series of injuries to his players "ridiculous" _ and he's even joking about sacrificing a chicken or finding some other way to change the team's luck.
Carlos Maldonado is the newest member of the Nationals, a catcher brought up from Triple-A Syracuse for Tuesday's game against the Padres.
Maldonado was needed because Washington's starting catcher, Wilson Ramos, blew out his right knee Saturday and could be outfor the season, and the guy called up to replace Ramos on the roster, Sandy Leon, went on the DL with a high right ankle sprain.
It doesn't just seem as if the Nationals are losing players on a nearly daily basis _ they really are.
Says first baseman Adam LaRoche: "You hope it stops sometime soon."
