Man killed when steamroller rolls over

SPARKS, Md. (AP) — Baltimore County fire officials say a man was killed when the mini-steamroller he was operating rolled over, pinning him underneath.

It happened about 2 p.m. Wednesday in Sparks. Firefighters say 64-year-old Michael Ray Mathews of Freeland was operating the steamroller to flatten a pile of dirt when the pile collapsed.

Authorities say Mathews was trapped, and another worker used another piece of equipment to lift the min-steamroller so Matthews could be removed.

Firefighters say Mathews died at St. Joseph’s Medical Center. Maryland Occupational Safety and Health is investigating the accident.
