Allegany County sheriff’s office to open

CUMBERLAND, Md. (AP) — Comptroller Peter Franchot is scheduled to speak at the grand opening of the new Allegany County Sheriff’s Office.

The event is scheduled for Tuesday in Cumberland.

Sheriff Craig Robertson also is scheduled to talk about cost-saving measures taken to build the new office.

The one-story facility cost $700,000 to build with the county maintenance department doing in-kind work estimated at $300,000.

The new 6,600 square-foot office nearly triples the size of existing office. It now has two evidence rooms, a deputies’ room, supervisor offices, a lunch room and a one-vehicle garage so that work on patrol cars can be done indoors.
