Police: Man shot, stabbed his 3-year-old daughter

WASHINGTON — On Monday, officials will release more information after a man shot and stabbed his 3-year-old daughter in Prince George’s County, leading to her death.

On Saturday afternoon, patrol officers were called to the 4200 block of Farmer Place in Temple Hills, Maryland, for a reported shooting. When officers arrived on scene, they found a man and woman — believed to be the grandfather and great-grandmother of the girl — suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.

When officers arrived at the scene, they began pursuing a vehicle driven by Frederick Roy Miller, a 38-year-old from Landover.

When Miller reached the intersection of Beech Road and Branch Avenue, his car lost a wheel and he stopped. At that point, according to police, Miller pulled a handgun and began firing. Police shot back.

Miller continued driving down Branch Avenue and stopped a short distance away to shoot back at police. The exchange of gunfire lead to Miller’s death.

A 3-year-old girl, believed to be Miller’s daughter, was found inside the car. According to medical examiners, Miller allegedly stabbed and shot his daughter. She later died at the hospital.

The girl’s name has not yet been released.

Two news conferences about the incident are set for Monday. The Maryland State Attorney’s Office will host a press conference at 11 a.m. and Prince George’s County Police Chief Mark Magaw will host a press conference at 1 p.m.

According to a report by NBC4, police confirmed there were six Prince George’s County police officers and one Maryland State Trooper involved in the shooting. It is not clear yet whether they knew the child was in the car at the time, and whose bullet mortally wounded her or when.

The shoot-out occurred on Branch Avenue (Route 5), which was closed in both directions just north of the Beltway for an extended period of time on Saturday afternoon.
