HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) -- Despite steady progress in restoring power to tens of thousands of Mid-Atlantic homes, one utility says it will be Saturday before some Maryland residents have electricity.
Just under 53,000 Maryland homes and businesses remained without power late Thursday afternoon, mostly in Frederick, Carroll and Baltimore counties. About 500 were still without power in northern Delaware.
Potomac Edison has about 22,000 of the Maryland outages. Spokesman Todd Meyers says most will be restored by late Friday night, but scattered outages will remain on Saturday.
Baltimore Gas and Electric says it expects to resolve most of its approximately 30,000 outages on Thursday, with some lasting into Friday.
Both companies have brought in hundreds of out-of-state workers to repair damage caused by an ice storm Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.
