DOVER, Del. (AP) - Several school districts in Delaware and on Maryland's Eastern Shore are closed and state government offices in Delaware's Kent and Sussex counties are opening late after snowfall overnight.

Many school systems throughout Maryland and northern Virginia are delaying openings Wednesday morning. Liberal leave is in effect for Maryland workers until 11 a.m.

The Delaware Emergency Management Agency says Kent and Sussex county roads are snow covered and 3 inches to 5 inches of snow fell in some locations in Sussex County. Department of Transportation crews are plowing roads statewide.

Maryland's State Highway Administration says crews are plowing and salting in southern Maryland and on the Eastern Shore, where some spots got 4 inches to 6 inches of snow. Roads in the Washington and Baltimore areas are mostly clear of snow.
