HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) -- Rescue workers near Hagerstown say a 19-year-old man has been flown to Shock Trauma in Baltimore after he was rescued from a farm silo in a three-hour operation.

Longmeadow Volunteer Fire Co. Chief Jason Eckstine tells The Herald-Mail ( ) that the unidentified man was hoisted to freedom just before 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Eckstine says the man fell from the top of the structure and landed on a mixture of chopped corn and hay. He says rescuers had to work quickly in the 90-plus degree heat because silage can produce toxic gas.

Eckstine says an emergency worker was taken to the Meritus Medical Center near Hagerstown with heat exhaustion.
