OCEAN CITY, Md. - Crews are removing the wreckage of a plane that crashed this week in the waters off Ocean City, killing two off-duty police officers.
Ocean City Police Department spokesman Michael Levy said Maryland state police were handling the recovery Thursday about a quarter-mile offshore. A state police spokesman didn't respond to a telephone message seeking comment.
The small plane crashed into the ocean Sunday after taking off from the Ocean City Municipal Airport. Witnesses told police the aircraft spun out of control before crashing.
Killed were 27-year-old Joshua D. Adickes and 43-year-old Thomas J. Geoghegan Jr., both off-duty Ocean City police officers.
Their bodies were recovered Monday, but rough waters and zero visibility forced a delay in the plane's recovery.
The National Transportation Safety Board and Federal Aviation Administration are investigating.
