FREDERICK, Md. -- The Frederick County Sheriff's office says a deputy has been placed on leave following a suicide in which the deputy's service weapon was used.
Sheriff Chuck Jenkins says two investigators are conducting a criminal investigation and an internal investigation into the suicide Feb. 27 at the deputy's home. Jenkins did not identify the deputy, who he says has been suspended with pay since the shooting. The sheriff's office says the deputy is a non-sworn civilian courthouse deputy,
Jenkins told The Frederick News-Post (http://bit.ly/ZjTaBr) that the shooting was not disclosed to the public because his office does not publicize suicides. The newspaper reported Saturday that records of radio communications show the sheriff's office set up a command post outside the deputy's home for several hours on the day of the shooting.
