ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- Maryland's Bay Bridge has reopened to passenger vehicles after being closed in both directions due to high winds from a snowstorm blowing through the Mid-Atlantic region.

The Maryland Transportation Authority reopened the bridge to passenger vehicles about 6:10 p.m. Wednesday. The agency had closed both the east and westbound spans of the bridge over the Chesapeake Bay about 2:30 p.m. Officials said they would monitor the situation and reopen the bridge when it was safe.

Before the bridge was shut down completely, two of the three lanes of the westbound span were closed because a tractor-trailer hit a guardrail. Transportation authority spokeswoman Cheryl Sparks said she did not know what, if anything, the trailer was carrying or whether anyone was injured when it overturned.
