Annapolis residents to learn about keeping hens

Wednesday - 5/30/2012, 10:56am  ET

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Now that Annapolis residents can keep backyard chickens, the city is hosting a meeting to discuss guidelines.

Annapolis recently passed legislation allowing residents to keep up to five egg-laying hens in their backyards. Officials will discuss the new permitting process at a meeting at the Annapolis Area Library on Wednesday evening.

The legislation that passed in April will sunset after three years. City officials will then decide whether to continue allowing chicken ownership.

Residents can only keep hens for eggs, not meat. They will not be permitted to keep roosters.
