BALTIMORE (AP) - Federal prosecutors say a Baltimore police officer indicted on drug and weapons charges is facing up to life in prison.

The U.S. Attorney's office says a detention hearing is scheduled Tuesday for 36-year-old Kendell Richburg of Baltimore.

Prosecutors say charges in the three-count indictment include conspiring to distribute heroin, cocaine, crack cocaine and marijuana. The U.S. Attorney's office says Richburg faces up to life in prison for the use of a firearm in drug trafficking, 20 years for drug conspiracy and 10 years on a firearms conspiracy count.

Baltimore Police Commissioner Anthony W. Batts says the charges are deeply disturbing. But the commissioner adds the joint investigation with the FBI that led to the charges underscores the department's unwavering commitment to accountability.
