Boil-water advisory in Prince George’s County lifted

WASHINGTON — The boil-water advisory for parts of Prince George’s County that went into effect on Wednesday has been lifted.

The Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission said in a statement early Friday morning that tests of the water lines on Wednesday and Thursday came back negative for any signs of harmful bacteria.

WSSC has suggestions for customers before drinking their water again:

  • Open all cold water taps beginning with the highest faucet in the home, then opening the others one at a time, highest to lowest, and let them run for five minutes.
  • After five minutes, turn off each faucet in reverse order, from lowest to highest.
  • You should also flush your refrigerator’s water lines, and dispose of any ice made since the order went into effect at 7:55 a.m. Wednesday — and throw out the next three batches of ice, too.
  • And clean your ice-maker containers with a solution of two tablespoons bleach to one gallon of water.

The advisory went into effect after a 12-inch main broke in Brandywine on Tuesday.
