Six injured in police chase and accident on I-66 in Va.

WASHINGTON — Six people were hurt Saturday during a police pursuit along I-66 eastbound between Sycamore Street and Glebe Road in Virginia.

Shortly after 3 p.m. Saturday, Virginia State Police initiated a traffic stop on a Dodge Charger, according to a press release from the Virginia State Police. The Charger stopped for the trooper along eastbound Interstate 66.

The driver of the car, Ericka S. Oliver, 25, was wanted by a local police department on an outstanding warrant, according to the release.

As the trooper took Oliver into custody, a male passenger in the Charger, Anthony G. McCrae,33, of Washington, D.C., took control of the car and sped away from the scene. State police pursued the fleeing Charger going eastbound on I-66.

The vehicle got off at the Rt. 123 exit and then got back onto Rt. I-66, again going east. As the Charger caught up with traffic near Sycamore Street in Arlington, McCrae lost control and crashed into a Ford Expedition, causing it to spin out. The Charger then rear-ended a Subaru Outback.

McCrae was then taken into custody without further incident, and was transported to Virginia Hospital Center with serious but non-life threatening injuries. He is being held without bond at the hospital on outstanding warrants from Arlington and Prince William County, Va., police departments. Additional charges connected with the chase are pending.

Two adults in the Ford suffered minor injuries and were treated at the scene. There were three adults in the Subaru — two were treated at the scene and one was transported to the hospital with serious injuries.

By 6 p.m. all lanes on I-66 were cleared and open to traffic.
